Upholstery Cleaning FAQs

How frequently should I book an upholstery cleaning?

A few factors may influence it. First and foremost, the manufacturer. Typically, manufacturers advise having upholstered furniture professionally cleaned every 24-48 months.

Next up are your kids and pets. Every parent and pet parent knows children and animals will treat upholstery, well as children and animals should. They’ll play on it, shed on it, spill on it, etc. That’s why you may want to up the frequency of your upholstery cleanings when kids and pets are present in your home (don’t hesitate to ask about our pet urine removal services). In addition, if any people within your household have allergies or asthma, cleaning upholstery more often may help alleviate some of their symptoms.

Is it the same process as your carpet cleaning process?

Upholstery tends to be a little bit more delicate than carpet, so the process isn’t identical. Some steam cleaners may neglect this fact and end up ruining your upholstery by filling it with too much water and mimicking their carpet cleaning process.

To avoid any excess water use, we still deploy our proprietary Hot Carbonating Extraction process and adjust it for upholstery. As part of this process, we use a carbonated solution that releases dirt and dust from upholstery fibers. Then, we extract these contaminants and the liquid solution to leave your furniture clean without the need for excess water or harsh cleaning agents and scrubbing.

Do I really need a professional upholstery cleaner?

Upholstery does more for your home than offer a comfortable place to lounge about and sit. Your upholstery traps dust, allergens, and other airborne particles. Your vacuum won’t be able to properly remove those particles. Because professional upholstery cleaning is a lot more thorough, it is the right choice for your hardworking furniture. Plus, we’ll ultimately leave your upholstery cleaner, fresher, and smelling better than ever before.

Can Chem-Dry remove upholstery stains?

We absolutely can. Our motto around here is, “If we can’t get it out, nobody can!” We use innovative processes that gently remove the root causes of stains.

The team here at L & J Chem-Dry can also help protect your furniture from future spills and accidents with our Protectant Package. This product boosts the stain resistance of upholstered fabrics and provides a protective barrier for their delicate fibers.

Does it take a long time for upholstery to dry after a cleaning?

With Chem-Dry, the answer to that question is a resounding no. Our Hot Carbonating Extraction process does not rely on intense water usage, your furniture will dry faster with our services than with conventional cleaning techniques. For most of our clients, their furniture dries within a matter of hours. However, for certain fabrics or particularly soiled pieces, drying may also need to take place overnight.
